The final stage of the sports contests “Universiade-2016” will be held in Fergana this year on 26-29^th of May among students of higher institutions. Teams from Tashkent city, Republic of Karakalpakstan and other regions shall compete in 15 types of sport.

 It should be mentioned, that unique three-step system consisting of “Umid nihollari”, “Barkamol avlod“ and the sports contests “Universiade” was organized on our President’s initiative; nowadays it appears to be a great wave, which is helping millions of children to grow up both physically and spiritually healthy. The top phase of the system – the sports contests Universiade at first was organized on 9 types of sport, as of today the number has reached 15 sport types. These are basketball, volleyball, freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, athletics, weightlifting, tae kwon do, boxing, tennis, table tennis, football, handball, chess and swimming.

            The sports contests “Universiade” were held in Namangan in 2000, in Bukhara in 2002, in Samarkand in 2004, in Tashkent city in 2007, in Andijan in 2010, in Bukhara region in 2013. Intense preparations are arranged nowadays for the “Small Olympics”, which will be held in Fergana this year. Complete information was given about it on a press conference, which was conducted in Ahmad Fargoniy Fergana region library information center yesterday.

            - A lot of activities were carried out to conduct these competitions in Fergana at high level, - says the head of press service of the sports contests “Universiade – 2016” Shohid Aslonov. – The sports halls of Fergana State University, Fergana Polytechnic Institute and Fergana Olympic Reserves College were reconstructed and equipped based on contemporary needs. A football field with 3200 seats, indoor swimming pool, 3 volleyball courts and athletic tracks were constructed and given to exploitation in Fergana State University.

            Special attention was paid for the residence of contestants, food and organization of favorable conditions for their relaxation. Up-to-date reconstruction works were done in halls of residence of Fergana State University and Fergana Polytechnic Institute.

            Works on beautifying and landscape gardening were carried out in the center of region; flower gardens were organized as well. Central streets Fergana, Marifat and Murabbiylar were reconstructed on basis of modern architecture requirements, about 5 kilometers of road were fixed.

            1068 sportsmen and coaches, 155 umpires, also famous sportsmen of our country, mass media officials are planned to participate in sports contests. Sport competitions will be held in 12 modern sport constructions.
