REPORT
of the Second Plenary Session of the UZHELTH TEMPUS project,
24-26 April 2014 (Tashkent, Uzbekistan)
From the 24th to 26th of April 2014 the second plenary session of the project TEMPUS UZHELTH took place in Tashkent. It was attended by the European partners and partners from Uzbekistan as well.
The European partners: Katherine Isaacs, Francesco Fornai, Laura Burgisano (University of Pisa, Italy), Jose Enrique Diaz de Barros Pinto (University of Porto, Portugal), Norbert Lucas, Peter Massani (Slovak Agricultural University in Mitra , Slovakia Mitra ).

The organizers of the meeting were previously provided with all the necessary tools for the information and analysis due to the results of the meeting of the TEMPUS UZHELTH project team which was held in Pisa, Italy (February 11-19, 2014).
At the beginning of the meeting of the 24th of April all the project participants had the opportunity to present themselves and their university. TashPMI rector, professor BT Daminov showed the presentation about the institute "Past, Present and Future of TPMI", then the participants visited the clinical departments TashPMI .
The next step was the working meeting with the resuming the results of Pisa meeting and the new template was proposed by the partners. It was also compiled the practical organization of the following WP activities and the project calendar. The new partnership agreement was approved.
On April 25, at the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute it was held the opening ceremony of the TEMPUS Project UZHELTH: Enhancing Public Health Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The overall objective of the event was to create a coordinated structure for the health sector and for all its relevant areas which could integrate directly the project participants and stakeholders to provide training courses of the health care system at all the levels (technicians, experts, professionals, researchers) for the further upgrading of the educational system. The opening ceremony was attended by the specialists and the experts in the field of healthcare, agriculture, ecology and veterinary medicine of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Italy, Belgium, Portugal and Slovakia.
The following meeting participants had the intervention with the welcoming speech:
• Dominique Wouters the Chief of the cooperation Department of the European Union delegation in Uzbekistan;
• Muhabbat Mirsolieva – the Representative of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
• Gulnora Yusupalieva – the Deputy Head of Science and Educational Institutions - the Head of educational institutions of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
• Shakarboy Jonikulov - the Chief of the educational institutions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
• Aziza Abdurahmanova - the Coordinator of the Office of European Union programs Tempus and Erasmus in Uzbekistan;
• Katherine Isaacs Professor of the University of Pisa, Expert of Tempus projects.
Professor Alisher Iskandarov - the vice-rector of the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute opened an official ceremony. In his speech he said: «On the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I.A.Karimov, 2014 is declared as the year of healthy child. In this context, being the leading institution for the preparation of general practitioners and pediatricians, our institute has a great task presented by the government to be resolved. Particularly, the further deepening and expansion of the motto proposed by the President "Healthy mother - healthy child" I very much hope that the Tempus UZHELTH project, will be even more successful and will make a great contribution to the upgrading of curricula and the creation of a permanent platform where the specialists of the related fields such as agriculture, ecology, veterinary medicine could share the experience and solve problems which directly or indirectly could have the impact to the health of the Uzbek population".
In turn, the representative of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Uzbekistan Dominique Wouters spoke about the new projects of the European Union, and stressed that TEMPUS UZHELTH is one of the 11 newly selected Tempus projects that will be successful and will contribute to the modernization of the university curriculum. In this regard, A. Iskandarov said: "Our institute is happy to provide its administrative and human resources for the effective and efficient implementation of the project."
After the official opening ceremony the SAGS working session was launched to complete the issue of core competencies imposed narrow specialists in various subject areas of health, agriculture and the environment. After that, participants visited the Tashkent Medical Academy (TMA). The delegation of TEMPUS UZHELTH Project met the head of the international department of TMA Utkir Matkuliev who presented the activities and achievements of TMA. To the guests there were presented the dental faculty classrooms, lecture halls and hall with visual layouts on dentistry. At the end of the day it was organized the dinner dedicated to the opening of the project, it was attended by all members of the TEMPUS UZHELTH project.
On the third day of the meeting (26 April 2014) it was held the discussion to finalize the issue of core competencies in various fields which summarized the results of the meeting, and then the report SAG was listened. At the final plenary session all the participants of all the three groups read their reports.
It was held the meeting with the representatives of all the faculties of the Tashkent State Agrarian University (TashSAU); the project participants met the Rector Professor TashSAU - Botir Sulaimonov. During this meeting, 30 TSAU facilities were introduced to the project team: the Processing technology of Agricultural products unit; the Information resource center of the TSAU; the Research experimental farm of TSAU.
After completion of the work program on April 27, the guests visited the historical and cultural places of the city of Tashkent.
